Classes are provided at our base Carnival Village @The Tabernacle, Powis Sq, London, W11 2AY

Monday and Thursday 5 - 7 pm 11 years and over with tutor Russell Roberts 

Monday and Thursday 4 - 5 pm 7 - 10 years with tutor Debby Romain

 

Mangrove students follow a progressive programme of basic technical skills,
steel pan repertoire and history, aural training and musicianship, improvisation and performance.

Designed for Schools or Office team building.

Workshops include:
A live steelband performance with intermittent narration on how steel drums were invented and made Including slide show and video clips student participation through question and answer period. And a chance to actually have a go at playing.

Appropriate for primary and secondary school students. suitable for whole school assemblies.

60 minute Sessions for up to 15 students at a time
Benefits:
A dynamic, fun and meaningful way of introducing students to important aspects of Caribbean culture - steel drums and calypso music.

Background:
The steel drum musical instrument is the pride of the Caribbean. The only acoustic musical instrument invented in the 20th century Our exciting and engaging Workshops or classes will introduce students to the art form of steel drums.
